NVDA Logo Description

Long description of the NVDA Logo

The NVDA Logo is an image created in Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format using a path and a filter effect, compliant to the W3C SVG 1.0 specification. The image link shown on the Projects page is a raster image of the SVG image, provided in PNG format.

The NVDA Logo , as shown on this web site, sits on a white background and sits inside a square space that is 100 pixels wide and 100 pixels high in the default presentation. The NVDA Logo is 32 pixels square as used as a system trey and title bar icon in the NVDA application.

The image is of a single path creating the letter "N", but with the right-hand vertical stroke of the N changed to a crescent shaped curve that hints at the letter "D" inside the "N" shape. The path is in a black, or very dark grey colour, drawn with a subtle semi-three-dimensional semi-metallic appearance calculated by an SVG filter effect. The metallic filter is derived from the example shown at: "WebReference.com - Scalable Vector Graphics: The Art is in the Code: 6/8): Filter Effects:".

In the 100 pixel square image shown on this web site, the NVDA Logo path is 15 pixels wide. The filter effect is just enough to present the path as a three dimensional tube, but subtle enough to ensure that the image is solid and dark in contrast with the white background.

The left-hand stroke of the letter "N" has a small half-serif tick facing inwards at the bottom of the stroke, and proceeds vertically to form the left of the "N", and moves down on an acute angle, forming a straight line being the first angled line in the "N" shape. The path then curves outwards to the right and around to the top, coming in almost horizontally towards the top right of the logo. The top right end of the path finishes in a downward facing half-serif tick, similar to the tick shown on the left end of the logo. The tick on the right-hand end of the logo gives the impression of a hook.

The overall impression of the logo is that of a black three dimensional tube tracing out the letter "N", with a hint of a "D" on the right-hand side of the "N". Knowing that this is the logo for NVDA, the viewer may perceive a hint of a letter "A" being formed with the left side of the "N", and a letter "V" being formed inside the right side of the "N", which also suggests the "D" as described earlier.

The path starts at the bottom left of the logo space and ends near the top and towards the middle-right of the logo space. No part of the path touches any other part of the path, but the half-serif ticks point towards other parts of the path, and would connect if they were extended.
